I would like to only say this: I have met both trustee Speir and Professor Kottke and they have both been inspirational to me in different ways. I am profoundly impressed with Trustee Speir’s courage and conviction and count myself very lucky to have met him personally. He is a good man. Professor Kottke is a great mathematician and a great professor. He is one of the reasons I chose NCF. This is just the beginning of what, I hope, proves to be a very fruitful conversation. Perhaps Professor Kottke would benefit more from engaging the Trustees directly than time spent on MSNBC.

Hang in there, Eddie. You and the new crew are doing one helluva job! So keep on keeping on.

Remember what all teachers know: the kids just keep on coming, and the new ones know (and care) nothing about the old ones. Just concentrate on properly grounding the new kids, and in just a few years, you'll have transformed the place. The institutional power base of the remaining radicals on staff (both instructional and administrative) will be gone with the graduates. Time is working FOR you, not against you in reforming New College. Best of luck!

Thanks for your comments.

Also side note: My brother and I thought we saw you walking around campus recently. But we weren't completely sure if it was you or not so we did not introduce ourselves. Hopefully next time you are on campus exploring campus or whatever my brother and I can meet you.

"it is worth noting the correlation between Interim President Corcoran’s appointment and New College of Florida receiving an additional $15 million in operating budget for the current fiscal year. This is a big endorsement of our decision as a Board and an exciting harbinger of things to come."

So, correlation does not mean causation. That's a basic tenet of science and statistics.

Are you suggesting the $15M came *because* of Corcoran's appointment? It seems much more reasonable to presume that they came hand in hand, from the governor exerting his authority. This has nothing to do with the Board's decision(s).
